When compared with humans, horses (especially thoroughbreds) have a relatively larger lung surface area per body weight, and dogs use their respiratory system to exchange oxygen / carbon dioxide and to cool their body ie. Panting.

When humans breath in exhaust fumes above the levels recommended by health and environmental guidelines, they are likely to develop symptoms of headache, nausea, irritability, loss of concentration etc, etc.

Independent government supported tests, indicate that animals traveling in a trailer behind a car without an EFD, are liable to inhale at least three times the recommended human levels of exhaust fumes.

In my opinion animals exposed to three times their level would be likely to feel the same symptoms as humans exposed to exhaust fumes and would have headaches, nausea be irritable and just not feel well.

In addition this would add to the stress load on the animal, and as we know stress and exhaust fumes can lead to more serious illness ie. Travel Sickness and Laminitis, Airway Disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) resulting in severely reduced athletic performance.

With the technology available to direct those dangerous exhaust fumes away from the trailer, it is my opinion that all responsible caring horse owner and trainers should ensure that their horses travel breathing fresh air. And don't forget that when the exhaust fumes are diverted you can safely open the vents on the front of the trailer.

OlympicTrailers- Horse float and trailer manufacturers

As a horse float manufacturer with over 30 years experience, I know that exhaust fumes were always an issue waiting for a solution.

Until now we had to design floats with ventilation systems that avoided the fumes from the towing vehicle. However, we could only ventilate the float with the air that surrounded it.

EFD can guarantee only clean air entering vents, this greatly benefits the horses and I would be recommending this product to all my customers.

Spending 40 years on the road transporting horses I have passed allotof towing vehicles blowing dirty diesel smoke right into their horse floats, the EFD system has revolutionised this so that the traveling horse only gets clean air.

As an Australian competitor, as an Australian horse lover and as an Australian who's ambition includes riding for my country at the olympics there is nothing more important to me than my horse's welfare and welbeing.

As Australians all of us travel greater distances than horse enthusiasts in other countries.

The fact that in during these times exhaust fumes do not contaminate my horse is a very serious concideration.

I think that all horse enthusiasts worldwide will adopt this technolgy once it is available to them.

This product will make a massive difference to the industry and welfare of animals in transport and is years overdue ,it is logically the only practical way to remove these harmful fumes and to exit them to the rear of trailer out of harms way.
